Hampton University (HU) Alumna and Former Miss Virginia, Desiree Williams, was crowned Miss Virginia Beach July 19. The competition is a preliminary contest to the Miss Virginia USA Pageant, which is in Charlottesville in November.
Williams earned her undergraduate degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from HU in 2011, and is part of the University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She served as Miss HU 2010-2011, and in the latter year was featured in Ebony magazine as one of 10 Historically Black College or University (HBCU) Campus Queens. Her other pageantry wins include Miss National Sweetheart, Miss Peninsula and Miss Arlington. Williams was only the fourth African-American to serve as Miss Virginia.
“It is always thrilling to compete within the state of Virginia and be able to serve its citizens through pageantry,” Williams said. “I am looking forward to doing more work in Virginia and preparing for the Miss Virginia USA Pageant.”
