The Virginia Union University women's basketball program has announced that Shareka and Shameka McNeill have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Lady Panthers beginning in the in 2017-18 season.
While at Harding University High in Charlotte, N.C., both scored 1,000 points each in their respective careers, so both have shown they can get buckets.
Shareka is listed at 5-6 and wore No. 11 while Shameka is listed at 5-5 and wore No. 12 for Harding.
Their stats are stunningly similar. Both scored 1,000 points in their high school careers, with Shareka averaging 18.3 points, 2 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. Shameka averaged 17.5 points, 2.3 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game. They finished first and second in their high school conference in points and steals.
When Harding pulled off an upset victory of South Mecklenburg High School this past season and the twins were, well, double trouble.
Harding won the game 57-56 — Shareka and Shameka combined for 48 of those points.
"I am extremely excited that Shareka and Shameka McNeill will be joining our Lady Panther family," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert. "Their character, work ethic and intellect epitomize what we look for in the individuals we recruit. They possess exceptional speed and sound fundamental skills for two young talented players. They will be impact players in the CIAA over the next four years. I look forward to coaching them."
The twins turned down offers from Division II Johnson C. Smith University and Lander University, and from Division I schools such as Norfolk State University and Morgan State University to play for the 2017 National Finalist Lady Panthers.
