
Defensive Lineman Makes Move from AFL to NFL
Former North Carolina Central University defensive end Xavier Proctor has signed a contract with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, the team announced Thursday (Aug. 1).
Proctor, who worked out with the Lions during the team's spring mini-camp in May, will join Detroit's 90-man roster for training camp starting Thursday.
A 6-6, 277-pound native of Ellicott City, Md., Proctor made his professional football debut with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League on July 13 against the Iowa Barnstormers, then his second appearance with the Predators on July 27 against the New Orleans VooDoo.
During his senior season at NCCU in 2012, Proctor earned All-MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Second Team recognition after recording 42 total tackles (21 solo), including 10.5 hits for a loss with 4.0 sacks, along with two pass break-ups.
In his NCCU career (2009-12), Proctor amassed 143 tackles, including 26.5 hits for a loss with 10.0 sacks (8 solo, 4 assisted).
