Come swing with North Carolina Central University instructor and drummer extraordinaire Thomas E. Taylor along with an impressive gathering of NCCU alumni percussionists to start the 2014-15 school year off with a bang.
Give the Drummer Some, a free jazz percussion concert by NCCU music faculty and alumni, will be presented at 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at B.N. Duke Auditorium on campus.
The day will also feature music- and percussion-centered workshops starting at 2 p.m. in the Old Jazz Band Room at B.N. Duke Auditorium.
A silent auction is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the auditorium atrium, with a variety of items on the block.
“There will be great deals for drummers, jazz fans, NCCU lovers, art lovers and the adventurous community supporter,” Taylor said. Auction winners will be announced before the evening’s final performance.
Workshops and the concert are free and open to the public. All proceeds from the auction will go toward the NCCU Jazz Studies Scholarship Fund. Donations can also be made online at nccu.edu/donation/index.cfm.
