The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff received 76 points and one first place vote as they were predicted to finish fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this upcoming season.

The combination of guards Marcel Mosley and Tevin Hammond is about as dangerous as they come in the conference. Mosley earned 2014-15 second team All-SWAC honors according to votes by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. The 6-0, senior guard from Marion, Ala. finished last season averaging 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, ranking him second in the conference in steals, seventh in scoring, eighth in three point field goals made per game(1.8) and ninth in assists. Last season, Mosley scored 20 or more points in a game on four occasions as he scored 28 points against Southern, 22 against Grambling State, 20 against Alabama A&M and Prairie View A&M. In addition, he pulled down a season high seven rebounds against, dished out six assists and recorded seven steals against Jackson State a year ago.

Hammond produced 13.1 points per game last season and scored in double figures the last 14 out 16 contest. He scored a career and team high 30 points against Alabama A&M last year. Hammond completed his 2013-14 junior campaign ranked eighth in scoring in the SWAC.

The Golden Lions return three starters from a year ago but must replace All-SWAC forward DaVon Haynes. They will also be without the size of Daniel Broughton.

Newcomers JoVaughn Love and T.J. Handley could very well end up being pleasant surprises this season. They both provide the Lions’ backcourt with much-needed size and can play other positions. Love missed last season after suffering a broken bone in his knee during the postseason as a sophomore at Seminole (Oklahoma) State College. He and Handley, a Mid-South Community College transfer is expected to contribute right away. DeAndre McIntyre also made his return from last season, after suffering a torn ACL.

UAPB’s season will begin with the Outrigger Hawaii Classic, Nov. 14-18, in Honolulu. UAPB will play Hawaii, High Point (North Carolina) and Cal State-Bakersfield.
