Get published in Guideposts magazine - looking for Inspiring Stories! (256 hits)

Guideposts was founded in 1945 by the renowned Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his wife, Ruth Stafford Peale, to help people from all walks of life achieve their maximum personal and spiritual potential. Designed to inspire readers with true, first-person stories of individual spiritual experiences, the magazine offers a practical guide to successful living through faith in God.

Published monthly, Guideposts has a circulation of 2.3 million. The website, in Beta, offers reader forums, polls, features, a newsletter and much more.

A typical print issue offers a mix of features - from regular folk as well as celebrities - Ty Pennington of ABC's Home Makeover is the August 2008 cover story. Additional topics in each issue include animals, healing, parenting, family, food, health and of course, personal change and spirit.

The magazine is interested in how-to features dealing with personal development, quiz Q&As, news bites regarding teens, embarrassing moments, humor and storylines for the Comic section. True story ideas should focus on one event, answer all questions and have a spiritual ring.

In addition, the magazine loves to receive inspiring stories - the kind that gives goose bumps in the telling or brings you close to tears. Although the magazine receives thousands of stories a week, the editors say each one gets read.

Email your story to submissions@guidepostsmag.com but read the guidelines on their website, keeping in mind the following:

* Don't try to tell an entire life story. Focus on one specific happening. The emphasis should be on one individual. Bring in as few people as possible so that the reader's interest stays with the dominant character.

* Don't leave unanswered questions. Give enough facts so that the reader will know what happened. Use description and dialogue to let the reader feel as if he were there, seeing the characters, hearing them talk. Dramatize the situation, conflicts and struggle, and then tell how the person was changed for the better or the problem was solved.

* Most important: Study the magazine and website.
