Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, participates in the nursing process by delivering care to patients and their families. Duties and responsibilities include direct care activities required in daily nursing practice on the assigned unit. The nurse will utilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice. It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully meets all requirements of the Departmental Orientation. Utilizes the institutions care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values.
Work Experience
The Blood and Marrow Transplant inpatient unit is seeking new graduate nurses with a desire to join our premier multidisciplinary team at one of only 51 National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country. Nurses on this 16-bed acute unit provide care to adult patients with mainly hematologic malignancies undergoing stem cell transplant or cellular therapies such as CAR-T (Chimeric antigen receptor) therapy, an innovative treatment for several hematologic malignancies, including Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Nurses actively participate in many clinical trials and novel therapies. With many cancer patients experiencing extended and repeated hospital admissions, nurses are able to connect with patients and families and greatly impact their care and outcomes. On the Blood and Marrow Transplant inpatient unit, nurses learn to administer advanced cancer-fighting therapies and earn an Oncology Nursing Society Chemo/Biotherapy certificate. Nurses administer blood products, monitor and treat patients for disease- or treatment-related toxicities, and provide supportive and palliative care to a vulnerable patient population. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. If graduate is completing the initial examination, testing must be completed within 90 days of the date that the graduate completed the school nursing program. Must meet all applicable federal, state, and local professional requirements Current AHA BLS certification required. Less than 12 months nursing experience. Basic computer skills are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
