GDITs Military Health Team is seeking skilled and mission-driven Operating Room Nurses to support surgical teams at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). Join us in providing exceptional perioperative care to active-duty service members, veterans, and their families in one of the nations most advanced military medical facilities.
Work Schedule:
- Services provided MondayFriday, between 06002300
- Standard 8hour shifts (30minute uncompensated lunch)
- Optional 10hour shifts across four weekdays (60minute uncompensated lunch)
- Schedules vary based on department needs
- Never more than 80 hours per twoweek period
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- 1 year of RN experience within the last 2 years
- Unrestricted, active RN license
- BLS certification required (ACLS and PALS preferred)
- Knowledge of perioperative standards and infection control practices
Core Responsibilities:
Operating Room Nurses provide comprehensive perioperative care, ensuring safe and efficient surgical operations. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and deliver patient care in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Support optimal outcomes related to clinical quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness
- Ensure full compliance with MTF policies, procedures, and standards of practice
- Conduct physical exams, obtain health histories, and provide patient education
- Administer medications, provide wound care, and deliver other hands-on nursing interventions
- Assign patient care based on staff competencies and scope of practice
- Recognize and respond rapidly to emergent patient conditions
- Communicate clearly with diverse teams, patients, and families
- Arrange referrals and coordinate specialty care
- Contribute to research efforts aimed at advancing patient outcomes
Perioperative/OR-specific duties include:
- Circulating nursing care throughout surgical procedures
- Pre-, intra-, and postoperative patient assessment
- Collaboration with surgical and anesthesia teams
- Maintaining aseptic technique and infection control standards
- Ensuring equipment readiness and compliance with AORN and Joint Commission standards
- Serving as team leader and providing relief charge coverage as needed
