AURORA — Dreams can come true.
If you need proof, talk to East Aurora High School senior Brian Nunez.
As the recipient of the coveted Gates Millennium Scholarship, Nunez will receive an all-expenses-paid post-secondary education — right up through a doctoral degree.
Each year, only 1,000 students from across the United States are awarded the Gates scholarship, which allows them to attend any accredited college or university of their choice, pending acceptance.
The scholarship was established in 1999 by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, to provide minority students with the opportunity to complete their undergraduate degree in any discipline, and eventually earn a graduate degree in math, science, engineering, education, public health or library science.
“This changes everything for my family and my future,” said Nunez, who is ranked fourth in his class.
The vivacious young man, who excels on the stage, will attend Columbia College in Chicago to pursue a musical theater degree. After that, he hopes to study education, and earn his doctorate.
