ASU business fraternity students win nationwide! (1410 hits)

- Second year for students to bring home national honors from yearly conference.

- ASU students recently made history statewide - first African-Americans elected.

For two years in a row, members of Alabama State University’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Professional Business Fraternity have been winners nationwide - its members also recently made history statewide!

ASU sent eight of its business students to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif. recently and two came back to Montgomery having earned top honors at it, said Dr. Le-Quita Booth, dean of ASU's College of Business Administration (COBA).

Essence Willis, a Management major, competed in the Free Enterprise Project and placed third in the nation, and Undrea Meadows, a Computer Information Systems major, advanced to the finals in website design and beat more than 30 competitors to be named in its Top 14 nationwide.

“ASU was the only Historic Black College or University (HBCU) in attendance at this year’s national conference, and our students brought home wins and a national award recognizing their service to the organization and to our community," Booth said. "This is yet another testament to the quality of education our students receive.”

More than 2,000 of the best and brightest college business students from over 250 schools traveled from across the United States and abroad to participate in the national conference.

History made statewide

ASU's business fraternity students are no strangers to winning big and making history, Booth said. It wasn't that long ago that ASU students made history at its state conference, as student-delegates elected the first African-Americans to lead the Alabama chapter of the fraternity, which were ASU students: DeMarcus Robinson, president; Donovan Archie, vice president; and Zainab Olomada, secretary/treasurer - high resolution photo attached.

Other National Conference Honors

ASU’s business fraternity also was honored nationally with the Gold Seal Chapter of Merit award, which recognizes outstanding chapters for their participation in local chapter written reports, community service, recruitment of members and who actively support programs identified with the goals of Phi Beta Lambda.

Background

Held annually, both the state and national conferences provide a resource for students to gain leadership experience, participate in motivational general sessions, professional development, career planning workshops and intense competitive activities.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the largest and oldest student business organization. Alabama State University's chapter of Phi Beta Lambda Professional Business Fraternity is the oldest in the state of Alabama.
