Jamin Godfrey just wrapped up one of the finest careers in TSU football history, breaking the school's 42-year old scoring record. The Englewood, Tenn. native was 18-of-29 in field goal attempts and 43-for-45 in PATs as a senior for 97 points, giving Godfrey 317 for his career. He was the first Big Blue kicker to be named to the All-OVC Team, and he did it twice in 2012 and 2013.
Godfrey graduated from TSU with a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences this past May.
TSUTigers: Talk about your overall TSU experience.
A: It was a great experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I grew up at TSU and learned how to face life.
TSUTigers: What do you love most about TSU?
A: The thing I love most about TSU is its location. I fell in love with Nashville and that played a big part in bringing me to TSU.
TSUTigers: What will you miss most about TSU?
A: The thing I will miss the most is definitely the road trips with my team and seeing new places that otherwise wouldn't have been possible.
TSUTigers: What is your most memorable football moment at TSU?
A: It's really a tie between two. The first would be the Tennessee Tech game my junior year where I kicked five field goals and the game winning extra point. That was by far the biggest game of my career. Second would be breaking the school’s all-time leading scorer record against Butler my senior season.
TSUTigers: What is your most memorable non-football moment at TSU?
A: I would have to say graduating. That's what coming to college is all about.
TSUTigers: How do you feel social networking played a role in this season?
A: Social Networking is the key to fan support. I believe TSU did a very good job with making sure the fans know what is going on.
TSUTigers: Do you have a favorite TSU fan/supporter? If so, who?
A: Definitely my mom. She has been to almost every game possible. She's the reason why I play sports. When I was younger there wouldn't be a time of the year that I wasn't playing some type of sport whether it was soccer, basketball, baseball, or football.
TSUTigers: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?
A: Never give up on your goals and do not let anyone put you down. You control your outcome.
TSUTigers: What was your most challenging class at TSU?
A: It’s a tie between French, and Abnormal Psychology
TSUTigers: Who was your favorite professor?
A: I really do not have a favorite because I developed very close relationships with many of my professors and I would hate to make a list and leave someone out.
TSUTigers: Who have been the most influential people to you at TSU?
A: My kicking coach Joe Davis. We literally spent countless hours together working on my kicking game but he was always there for me as a person as well. If we weren't talking about kicking were talking about life.
TSUTigers: Once you are an alumnus, how will you stay connected with TSU?
A: I'll be coming to as many games as possible
TSUTigers: What do you know now that you didn’t know coming in as a freshman?
A: Life is hard, but it's not impossible.
TSUTigers: What have you learned at TSU that you will keep with you for the rest of your life?
A: Patience
TSUTigers: Is there anything else that you would like to say to the TSU family?
A: I would like to say thank you to everyone for supporting the athletics and university through all the years, and thank you for giving us student-athletes the opportunity to keep the legacy alive.
