A senior at Albany State University has been named "Male Student of the Year" at the 2014 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Awards.
Kelcey Wright, a senior middle grades education major from Riverdale, Ga., received the award at a ceremony at Dillard University in New Orleans.
The awards ceremony is held in conjunction with HBCU Media Week and celebrates the achievements of historically black colleges and universities throughout the country. It is also the first and only event to recognize the influence and impact of HBCUs on American culture.
Wright is one of 75 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree students who serve on the 2014 HBCU All-Stars White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and he is president of the ASU Holley Ambassadors, a team of student recruiters who are the University’s official hosts and hostesses for events.
