Bison News: Howard University Hosts Fourth Annual Social Media Conference (294 hits)


Social media experts, professionals and scholars from across the country will present their research, best practices and ideas on the changing landscape and power of social media in society at the fourth annual Social Media Technology Conference and Workshop Sept. 25-26, at Howard University’s Blackburn Center. This year’s title sponsor is the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.

The conference and workshop, hosted by Howard University and Bowie State University, provides a forum where scholars and professionals can share their perspectives on the technical, ethical, economic, legal, political and cultural implications of social media use. The keynote speaker at this year’s luncheon will be Ron Nixon, an award-winning Washington correspondent for The New York Times. He specializes in computer-assisted reporting and investigative reporting, and created the Ujima Project to help African journalists find information about their governments’ use of international funds. He also trained journalists in data journalism and the use of social media in journalism.

The conference will feature more than 30 in-person and virtual presentations as well as opportunities to network with other educators, professionals and experts in the area of digital media, communications and teaching. More specifically, the following topics will be addressed:

Learning about and From Social Media
