Concordia has once again expanded its academic reach by adding a new degree concentration to its growing list of academic programs. Students now have the option to study music with this new Associate of Arts degree with Music Concentration. The music program is the eighth new program added by the college in the past two years alone. Since 2014, CCA has added three business concentrations (Management, Management Information Systems, Organizational Leadership); three Associate of Arts programs (Nursing, Applied Management, Music); and three bachelor’s degrees (Social and Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Nursing (RN-BSN) ). The music concentration will be available to students starting this January.
Under the music program, students will be required to complete eighteen credit hours in music courses in addition to the forty-four core credit hours required to obtain an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree. The program will be led by Mr. Steven Johnson, CCA’s band director and music instructor.
In addition to the music program, CCA’s Division of General Education has officially changed its name to the Division of Arts and Sciences.
“This brings Concordia in line with other four year degree granting institutions and positions the college for further growth,” said Dr. John Minney, Arts and Sciences Division Chair.
In an effort to continue its academic growth, CCA is also currently laying the groundwork to add a Bachelor of Liberal Arts program in the near future, pending approval from the college’s accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
These positive changes come off the heels of CCA’s new five-year strategic plan that was put into place this June. One of the main goals of the new plan is to create more opportunities for students, including adding new majors, academic programs, and extracurricular activities. A copy of the plan can be found here on the “About Us” section of the Concordia website (www.CCAL.edu).
