Alabama State University's campus National Public Broadcasting radio station, WVAS-FM 90.7, has won four awards at the Alabama Associated Press (AP) Awards Banquet, which was held June 9, in Birmingham.
This continues an almost decade-long tradition of winning several of these prestigious awards each year that are judged by the AP, which is considered at the apex of professional journalism recognition statewide, said Jay Holcey, WVAS's station manager.
“I am very proud of the news team for being recognized for all of the hard work they do," Holcey said. "They are a staff of dedicated professionals who put their hearts and souls into their craft. To be recognized for the quality of their work truly speaks volumes,” he added.
The WVAS news team won awards for the following categories:
Best Anchor - Marcus Hyles; First Place.
Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast - WVAS; Second Place.
Best Public Affairs Show - Perspectives; Second Place.
Best News Series - Alumni Profiles; Second Place.
