Dr. Wilma Mishoe will be installed officially as Delaware State University’s 11th president during a 10 a.m. Investiture Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 8 in the Education and Humanities Theatre on campus.
The Investiture Ceremony will be conducted by the DSU Board of Trustees, led by Board Chairperson Dr. Devona Williams and Vice Chairperson John Ridgeway.
In June, the Board announced the selection of Dr. Mishoe as the 11th permanent president in the 127-year history of the University. She succeeds Dr. Harry L Williams who served as president from January 2010 to December 2017. Dr. Williams resigned to become the president and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund.
Prior to being named as permanent president, Dr. Mishoe served as the acting president during the first six months of 2018.
The selection of Dr. Mishoe as the University’s president is historic because she is the first woman to serve in that top executive role in the 127-year history of the institution. It is also historical because she is the daughter of then-Delaware State College President Luna I. Mishoe (1960-1987). That is only the second time known in U.S higher education history that father and daughter presidencies at the same institution has taken place (see Goshen College in Indiana).
Later on that Dec. 8 evening, Dr. Mishoe will host the annual President’s Scholarship Ball in the ballroom of the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.
The Scholarship Ball will begin with a 5 p.m. reception, followed by a 6-11 p.m. dinner and dance.
The special music guests will the famed R&B group The Manhattans featuring Gerald Alston. There will also be dance music provided by the Panama Band.
The 10 a.m. Investiture Ceremony is free and open to the public.
Tickets for the Scholarship Ball are $125 per person. Ticket can be purchased online at
